In the initial time, blogs were introduced as online diary, journals. Times have changed a lot now. Now blogs have specified subject, around which bloggers write posts and updates.
This “subject” is about which the blog is based is called the “niche” of that blog. There can be thousands and millions of blogs under a single niche. In this article I’ll help show you how to find the perfect niche for your blog.
What is Niche and why it matters ?
A Niche is basically what the blog is all about. It is the prime subject upon which posts are published. There are several niches, sub-niches. A niche is one of the factors affecting the audience of the blog.
-> For example, if a blog has articles written about android, its niche is said to be smart-phone and its sub-niche is android. All its readers would be people who are interested in reading articles on android.
There are believed to be endless number of niches on the web. Specifying a niche on a blog is recommended because it lets you perfectly target audience. If you write posts targeting a single subject, soon you’ll start receiving targeted traffic. Apart from this you’ll can also succeed in creating a community on your blog.

How to Find the best profitable niche for your blog
It is true that you can make profits in any niche. But here I am talking about selecting niche in which making profits is easier than other complex niches. Before moving further you should note that selecting a niche is not an overnight process, sometimes it even takes more than a week !
Below are some quick tips that will let you find the best profitable niche for your blog ~
1. Discover your passion ~ The first thing you need to know is what you are passionate about. Generally the thing about which a person is passionate, he/she holds a heap of knowledge about that subject. This makes it easy for you to produce content.
Take a pen and paper and note down topics you are interested in. If you are passionate about a subject, make sure you include in it the list. This passion can be anything, like cooking, using smartphone, reading books, traveling, writing stories/jokes etc. Once you finish your list, sort out some topics and divide them into sub-categories.
For example if you selected technology as a topic, divide it into sub-categories like blogging, web-designing, gadgets etc. Don’t get carried away, most of the niches contain huge list of sub-niches under them as well. Pick up only those specific categories about which you are passionate.
2. Keep content production in mind ~ In the initial phase of your blog, it would seem easy to come up with new ideas for your next post. But with the time, it would get hard to come up with a new post. I discussed in detail about this thing in one of previous posts.
In my article titled, “How to Keep coming up with new ideas” I wrote about why and how it gets a bit hard to crack open the box of new ideas as time increases. There are several reasons why this happens. For a more detailed knowledge, read that post.
The point here is you need to think of this before selecting your niche. Select the niche if you can write a quality post every 3 days for the next 2 years. If you have passion and expertise in a particular field, it would be my strong recommendation to choose that as a niche.
3. The secret for selecting a profitable niche ~ One question I am often asked by readers is “How to know if a niche is profitable or not ?” . I understand the fact that profits can be generated in nearly every niche, but there are specific niches in which generating profits is bit easier than other niches.
To find a profitable niche, conduct this small and quick research ~
Head to google.com and enter your niche, such as travel packages etc and hit Enter.
As you can see in the above screenshot above as well, their are dozens of advertisements by google adwords which are being displayed for that keyword “holiday packages”. This means that people are willing to pay for this niche. Search out with your niche ideas and look if your niche is profitable or not. Here, profitable means niche which can succeed in generating profits in affiliate marketing a bit easier than other niches.
The greater the number of advertisements it has, the more advertisers are there and hence more profitable that niche is.
Do not :-
- Select a niche if some other blogger is making huge profits in it.
- Select a niche for the sake of profits.
- Select a niche if its products offer high commissions.
- Select a niche for short time blogging basis.
Plan before starting ~ Don’t just pick up a niche and step into lake. You should plan your moves before starting your blog. I always recommend creating a content heap before launching your blog. Prepare 10-20 posts and save them as draft. These are not the posts you are going to launch your blog with, instead these posts would act as a reserve when situations get hard and you aren’t able to produce content. ( For example when you are on a vacation etc ).
Final words – Selecting a wrong niche can widely affect your audience, sales and profits. Niche, domain and web-hosting are some factors whom you should choose with a lot of caution and care. There are several multi-niche website as well. Although it can be pretty hard for a single person to produce content in several niches at a time, so it is recommended to begin with a single niche. As your brand grows famous on the web, you can add more authors and produce content on multiple niches as well.
